Virtual Explorers
ages 6-13

Virtual Explorers Camp will combine interactive virtual instruction sessions with outdoor explorations that are challenging and fun. We know that time spent outdoors can provide many benefits and we want to help your camper connect to the outside world and learn new skills along the way.

Campers will spend time learning new skills that will integrate problem solving, spatial awareness, logic, and creativity. They will start by learning how to use a compass while they make a map of their own backyard. After developing a concrete understanding of the natural world right outside their door, they will learn how to think and act like a scientist while creating their own journal and dichotomous key. On the second week, they will focus on trees; how they grow, what they need, and why we need them!

How it works: A few days ahead of the first meeting you will receive a packet in the mail filled with important information and tools necessary for full participation in these activities. You will receive a Silva Starter Compass (retail value $18.00), magnifying glass, printed activity worksheets and color maps, stickers and a camp pin.

We will meet three times each week via a scheduled zoom meeting led by one of our course directors. Meetings will last approximately 30 – 60 minutes. After the meeting participants will have specific instructions and materials to get outside on a self-led adventure in the backyard or local green space exploring characteristics unique to your area. Each meeting will follow a similar format with participants reporting back next time to share their observations and data sets and to get their next assignment.

You will receive an invitation to the scheduled zoom meeting.

Explorers (ages 6-9 will meet at 9am)
Trekkers (ages 10-13 will be meet at 10am)

  • Mountain Stewards at Experience Learning is a fantastic week-long summer camp for kids who like the outdoors (or who WILL like the outdoors after this wonderful experience!) Stewardship of our natural resources, self-reliance, leadership, and fellowship, are all integral to this program. My daughter LOVES this camp, and that makes me a happy dad. Experience Learning also has great programs for learners of all ages. I recently completed an excellent Wilderness First Aid course at their wonderful Spruce Knob Mountain Center.
