It might look like a mess now, but a crew from Trout Unlimited is spending the month of June nursing the stream at Sweetwater Farm back to health.
Aaron and Wyatt, along with a handful of other occasional helpers are rebuilding the streambank, and re-creating fish habitat within our property boundaries. Next they will remove a culvert and reconstruct a bridge where the drive to Sweetwater Farm crosses the stream.
This waterway, at the very top of the Potomac River, is a spawning location for native Brook Trout and through this
work, access should improve for the trout and overall health of the stream should increase. You can bet that the Experience-Learning AWSM program will be keeping an eye on these waters in the years to come.
The fresh, cold and clean spring water running off of the Sweetwater Farm property, combined with the careful work of Trout Unlimited will soon return this waterway to prime trout hatchery habitat.
