Have you ever wondered what it would take to build a yurt? Have you ever visited our Spruce Knob Mountain Center and wondered what the process looked like? Looking for a summer getaway where you can also give back? Good news: you can have the opportunity to be a part of our open-air yurt construction project!
Experience Learning is proud to celebrate 50 years of existence by building a multi-purpose, open air yurt. We are excited to partner with Mike Iacona and Dickinsons Reach Yurts for a 15 day workshop from May 31 – June 14, 2022 that will produce an open-air yurt that will be used for education, celebrations, and so much more. Inspired by Bill Coperthwaite, Mike Iacona is continuing his work and legacy and we are excited to do our part to keep the tradition thriving.
50 years ago we built what is now a core part of our community and where we call home. Imagine what this open-air yurt will be 50 years from now. These new open air yurts will give us overhead protection from the elements while also allowing us to expand our impact. The open space will allow instruction of students, hosting of events, observing nature, and gathering as a community. This project continues our culture of spaces that are inspirational as well as functional.
Whether you are able to join us for the whole time, or just part of the build, we would love to have you!

Mike Iacona and Dickinsons Reach Yurts
We are proud to be partnering with Dickinsons Reach Yurts to expand our unique yurt village! Mike Iacona, part of Dickinsons Reach Yurts, worked closely with Bill Coperthwaite. Bill was the main force behind the building of Ulan Bator, our main yurt, 45 years ago. We are thrilled to carry on Bill’s memory while continuing to expand our community.
